Blue Mind Collection

If you've ever felt more peaceful interacting with water, you've experienced Blue Mind.

Water has always had a unique power to soothe the soul. Whether we're gazing at the ocean, floating in a river, or feeling the rain on our skin, it evokes a calm, meditative state that is deeply rooted in human experience. This phenomenon, known as Blue Mind, refers to the peacefulness and clarity we experience when we're in, on, or near water.

My photography in the Blue Mind project explores the connection between water and our emotional well-being. Inspired by the research of neuroscientists and marine biologist Wallace J. Nichols, I aim to visually capture how water can reduce stress, slow our breathing, and guide us into a state of deep relaxation. Through this work, I hope to evoke the serenity that water brings into our lives and invite viewers to experience its calming presence, whether they are by the sea, a lake, or simply engaging with these images.

Each photograph in this series is designed to echo the gentle rhythms and textures of water, offering a sensory retreat from the chaos of modern life. The water’s reflections, its constant movement, and its seemingly endless depth are metaphors for the peaceful inner spaces we can all access when we allow ourselves to be present with the natural world.

In a world increasingly driven by stress and overstimulation, I invite you to immerse yourself in these images and feel the quiet, steady pulse of water - a reminder of our profound connection to the blue spaces that sustain us.

This photographic series employs a technique called intentional camera movement (ICM), combined with a slow shutter speed and the use of a coloured filter. By panning the camera horizontally, I blend the waves into flowing, abstract forms. The range and speed of the pan, as well as the shutter speed, vary throughout the series.

The ICM community thrives on creativity, embracing abstraction and motion to push the boundaries of traditional photography. By using techniques like panning, slow shutter speeds, and layered exposures, artists transform fleeting moments into personal, expressive works of art. It’s a space where imperfection becomes beauty, and experimentation is celebrated. The community’s collaborative spirit fosters innovation, with photographers sharing techniques and inspiring one another to explore new possibilities. In this way, ICM becomes not just a technique but a vibrant, evolving art form.

“They are simply beautiful, and evoke everything it is that I love about the sea... it's feel, sight, sound and smell. Amazing that you can do that without someone having to actually go there.” ~ Anna Koska, Artist & Writer.

Dying of the Light Collection

Dying of The Light captures the transient beauty of a single peony over four weeks, exploring themes of decay, time, and transformation.

Each photograph marks a moment in the flower’s natural progression, from full bloom to its inevitable fade. By perforating the printed images with a pin and re-photographing them on a lightbox, I introduce light to shine through the wounds, emphasising the fragile nature of existence and the beauty found in imperfection.

This process mirrors the vulnerability and resilience inherent in both nature and human experience. The light that breaks through the perforations speaks to the delicate balance between darkness and illumination, death and rebirth, and the quiet persistence of life even as it fades.

Through this collection, I seek to draw attention to the quiet, often unnoticed moments of beauty in decline and the emotional resonance that lingers long after the bloom has passed.

The final image from the Peony series was chosen as the cover art for Bryde’s single Less.

Peony No. 4 • Dying of the Light Collection

Elevate your interiors with Dying of the Light, an exquisite abstract floral art series capturing the delicate beauty and transformation of a single peony over four weeks. Ideal for collectors, interior designers, and art enthusiasts, each photograph in this series portrays the peony’s journey from vibrant bloom to its graceful fade, offering a profound visual meditation on themes of time, resilience, and natural decay. The delicate, light-filled pinhole perforations in the images symbolise life’s fragile beauty, casting an ethereal glow that enhances any space with elegance and depth. Perfect for those seeking refined, contemplative decor, this collection invites a sense of quiet beauty and timeless allure to any interior.

Seasons Change Collection

My Seasons Change series explores the fluidity and impermanence of time through the natural world's transitions.

Using 35mm Kodak Ektachrome E100 transparency film, I employ the technique of cross-processing - a method where colour slide film is developed as though it were colour negative film. This process embraces the unpredictability of film, resulting in unexpected hues and striking vibrancy, which mirror the ever-shifting tones of the changing seasons.

The multiple exposures in this series are captured entirely in-camera, layering moments that belong to the in-between - where one season hasn't fully left, and the next hasn't fully arrived. By overlapping frames, I aim to capture the fleeting nature of these transitions, creating an abstract yet cohesive narrative that evokes a sense of movement and change.

Through this process, I delve into the liminal space between what is fading and what is emerging, reflecting on the cyclical rhythms of the earth. Each image embodies the beauty of unpredictability and the impermanence that defines the natural world, inviting the viewer to pause and appreciate the transient moments often overlooked.

Mother Ocean Collection

Mother Ocean is a visual homage to the beauty, wisdom, and enduring power of the ocean - a force that has shaped our planet and nurtures life within and beyond its shores.

In this series, I capture the ocean from multiple perspectives: submerged below the waterline, hovering midway, and just above the surface, revealing both its mysteries and its vulnerability.

Each image reflects the interconnectedness of humanity and the sea. Mother Ocean provides, teaches, and sustains, yet today, its resilience is strained by the rising tide of pollution. Plastic waste, raw sewage, and other human-made contaminants compromise marine ecosystems, threaten marine life, and jeopardise the health of the ocean that we depend upon.

With this series, I hope to deepen our sense of responsibility to protect this source of life. The images draw viewers into the ocean’s immersive beauty, inviting them to see it not just as a resource, but as a living entity in need of our care. I believe that by experiencing the ocean’s majesty and fragility, we can find the resolve to prevent further harm and safeguard its future.

Through Mother Ocean, I invite you to embrace both the profound connection and the shared duty we hold to preserve its vitality for generations to come.

Analogue X Digital Collection

The Analogue X Digital series explores the intersection of two photographic worlds: the ephemeral instant Polaroid and the precision of digital photography.

Through a meticulous process of deconstruction, I cut away the Polaroid’s frame and peel back its black backing, revealing its delicate emulsion. This fragile layer is lifted in warm water and then in cold water, it is placed onto a digital print of the same subject. The juxtaposition of analogue and digital, both captured in time but brought together through this transformative process, questions the ubiquity and accessibility of photography today.

In an age where digital images flood our lives, this series slows down the photographic process. It highlights the tactile nature of analogue photography while grounding it in the crisp clarity of the digital. The emulsion’s fragility, manipulated by hand, brings an element of chance, imperfection, and texture to an otherwise sharp digital image, creating a hybrid artwork that is neither fully analogue nor fully digital. The square format reinforces a sense of intimacy and nostalgia, while the visual layering speaks to the complexity of our relationship with technology and memory.

By merging two identical images, the work asks us to reconsider what it means to capture a moment - where the tactile and the ephemeral collide, forming something entirely new.

A Bright Accusation • There Are Always Flowers Collection

The series There Are Always Flowers emerged from a personal process of growth, patience, and connection with nature.

Each image captures not just the delicate beauty of the flowers, but the journey they represent from bulb to bloom. The act of planting, nurturing, and harvesting these flowers became a meditative practice, one that allowed me to engage deeply with the natural cycles of life.

In my home studio, I sought to create an intimate space where the essence of each flower could be explored through light, shadow, and form. The results are not simply still life photographs; they are reflections of time and transformation, underscored by a sense of quiet observation. Through these images, I invite viewers to pause and consider the often-overlooked beauty that exists around us, even in the simplest moments.

There Are Always Flowers speaks to resilience, the passage of time, and the small yet profound act of cultivating life. The series is as much about the flowers as it is about the fleeting nature of time and the enduring cycles that define the world around us.

“There are always flowers for those who want to see them” ~ Henry Matisse

Bring a sense of calm and connection to your space with There Are Always Flowers, an elegant photography series capturing the journey from bulb to bloom. Ideal for art collectors, interior designers, and nature lovers, each image celebrates the delicate beauty and resilience of flowers, cultivated and photographed in an intimate home studio setting. This collection is more than a display of floral still life; it’s a meditation on growth, time, and transformation, inviting viewers to pause and appreciate life’s quiet, often overlooked moments.

Perfect for interiors that embrace nature-inspired decor, There Are Always Flowers embodies the quiet power of patience and the beauty found in simple acts of nurturing. Each photograph offers a moment of stillness, adding depth and tranquility to any room.

Vulpes vulpes, a fine art photograph created for the Cruel & Curious Nocturne Art Exhibition, which encapsulates the complex relationship between nature, culture, and the often hidden narratives that shape our understanding of wildlife.

Measuring 44" × 29", this piece was exhibited within the serene yet conflicted environment of a National Trust property, where nature's beauty stands in stark contrast to the darker practices that threaten it.

The series reflects on the duality of the fox as both a symbol of cunning and a target of human cruelty. Two years and two months after the exhibition, in November 2021, trail hunting became illegal on National Trust land - a significant yet delayed acknowledgment of the ongoing battle against the cruelty masked by this practice. Trail hunting has long served as a smokescreen for illegal fox hunting, obscuring the reality of suffering behind a veneer of sport and tradition.

Through Vulpes vulpes, I aim to evoke a sense of empathy for this misunderstood creature while questioning the ethics surrounding its treatment. This work serves as a call to awareness, urging viewers to reflect on the complex layers of human impact on wildlife, and to advocate for a future where compassion triumphs over cruelty. In capturing the essence of the fox, I hope to foster a deeper connection with the natural world and inspire conversations that lead to meaningful change.

Original Polaroid Emulsion Lift

The process of deconstruction of the Polaroid involves the instant photo being cut from its frame and the black backing removed.

It is then placed into hot water where the emulsion layer is carefully removed from the transparent acetate with a brush. The emulsion is carefully moved to another tray containing cold water, where it is delicately brushed into position onto watercolour paper.
