Let's take sixty seconds to breathe...
About this Reel
I created this Reel for anyone who scrolls past dozens of high-energy, fast-cut videos every day and never gets a moment to actually slow down, which is most of us.
Using footage I filmed of the sea on my phone, I built sixty seconds around the box breathing technique, a simple, evidence-based method used to calm the nervous system in moments of stress, championing Blue Mind theory, the idea that being near, in, or on water can measurably improve our mental state.
My aim was for the film itself to become the exercise, not just describe it, so the visuals move at the same unhurried pace as the breath. I chose a dusty blue for the subtitles to match the film's calm tone and the sea itself, rather than borrowing a brand palette, letting the mood carry the piece on its own terms.
This reflects how I think about content marketing more broadly: the most successful content isn't always about the brand or organisation making it. Engaging an audience should offer genuine value beyond the organisation's own needs, and this Reel is built on that same principle: a moment of calm, offered freely, with nothing asked of the viewer in return.
This Reel was created for St Petrocs, a charity working to end homelessness in Cornwall.
