Messenger is a giant statue in Plymouth, UK, situated outside Plymouth’s Theatre Royal.

It was created by the Cornish artist Joseph Hillier, depicting a female actor crouching in preparation to run onstage.

Despite its scientific credentials, the wearing of a face mask became a political issue during the Covid-19 pandemic - a piece of cloth worn across the nose and mouth to protect others.
